Question about how to wire active humbuckers

I have a set of seymour duncan live wires that I am thinking of putting in my new guitar.I got these off of a buddy of mine that had them installed in his
Les paul.He had it wired active.I dont care for that sound or the hassle of
dealing with batteries.Am I wrong in assuming I can use these pups w/o the
pre amp?Can I just pop em in and go?
Any advice would be appreciated.

Live wires are active pickups, and you must use a battery with them.

Thanks for the answer Light.I'll save tose pups for something else.
Would you explain to me exactly why it is that they will only work with
a battery?

They work kind of like a condenser microphone. No battery, no output.
