Question about Electro-Voice

I can tell ya you got a good deal. The Electro Voice 635A is a great mic for guitar amps and acoustic guitar, and on some vocals. Its a dynamic omni with not much low end, but that works out much better than you'd think for a lot of things. Its also tough as nails. I'd say it belongs in the same category as the SM57 for sheer versatility and nice sound. They show up on ebay now and then for $60 or so, so free is good deal. ;)

it's by far my favorite mic for guitar amps. Today I was comparing a 635a
to an SM57 on a couple of amps (one awful Marshall Valvestate and one
Sovtek Mig 100). The 635a seemed to be brighter and a bit harsh on the
Mig's attempt at a "clean" sound, but when he kicked in the Big Muff the
57 suddenly sounded brighter. odd. On the Marshall, the 57 just sounded
a bit bland compared to the LOVELY midrange yum that you get from a 635a.

A 635a and a good preamp are desert-island items along with the SM-57.
I think I still saw it in the last Bradley Broadcast catalog.

It's a killer handheld vocal mike too, very pop resistant even compared
to other omnis.
