Putting some "grunge" in female vocal

We've got a song where the female vocal changes from ballad like to a louder, harsher sound on the choruses.

It tracked well, but that part needs a little "dirt". Any ideas on this? My first thought was to get a cheap tube preamp and run it through that.

Thanks Tex, I was considering doing a guitar pedal thing, should be interesting. I also have a dbx DDP, and I was wondering if it has a program that would accomplish that, I don't have the manual here at home, I'll check it this week.

Overcompression can add a lot of 'dirt'. I find it more interesting than pure distortion, as you have a lot of settings... Believe me, I overcompress every song :D

thanks for the suggestions

I'll try that too, volltreffer, any ideas on how I should set attack and release, etc?

I'd try retracking her and pushing the preamp harder, especially if you can round up a pre with glowing glass.
