Punching on the 388

Anyone here figured out a good way to get clean punch ins and outs on the Tascam 388? I get nice clean punch-ins, but punching out always leaves a half-second gap behind.

I tried cheating by using the REC FUNCTION buttons to turn tracks on and off during recording, but it didn't really seem to help.

The punch-out gap is inherent in the technology. The only way to minimize it is to try to punch out when the musical phrase would allow it, which is material dependent. The only other way is to play all the way to the end of the track after punching in, skipping the punch out altogether.
