PanicJ - Grand Rapids - The Improv

Here is an improv jam done in my bedroom studio. I kinda sorta arranged it in my head, then did all of the instruments starting with the drums. The arrangement is kinda 'on the spot.'

It starts strange and gets stranger.

The drums - 1 take
Strings - about three takes (punch ins rather) each
lead guitar - 1 take

I had to compress it pretty badly 'cuz it's 7:00 long. Well, at least the part I uploaded was 7:00. Bummer, all of the cymbals and a lot of the attack on the acoustics are null and void now. I think the bass got squished a little too, cuz the toms aren't ringing like they should.

i especially liked one part in the middle, where the bass was doing something nifty, and the guitar was playing some slow notes... sorry i cant be more specific where it was hehe a little before the halfway point.

That's pretty wild man, good improv!
If anything, it sounds a bit muddy. Maybe EQing the 250-400Hz midrange a bit on the whole mix or individual instruments would help clear up the overall sound.

I love this stuff man, really cool.
A bit Zappa a bit eloy a bit renniscanse.
I think there is a slight late 60`s sound to it.
Great playing, very improvised, but its got a great feel.
Man I`m glad I heard this.
This really makes me wanna get some prog done myself
