problem recording soft synth

Howdy,

I posted this in Cool Edit forum with no response.

I'm using CEP on a newer Dell computer. I added a generic soundcard just to use the midi port. I use the internal soundcard for audio. I'm using a Yamaha keyboard to play NI Pro53 soft synth. I can record an audio track of the synth in single track mode but in order to record the synth in multi track mode, I have to go to the computer audio controls and select "wave out mix". Problem is, when I do this, all of the other tracks also get recorded onto the synth track. It's all or nothing.
Any help out there?

Record your part via MIDI.

Then, mute all of the other tracks and record. Then the only thing in the WAV Out stream is the softsynth, and therefore it gets recorded alone.

Then just unmute the other tracks and play back.

So when I play along with the other tracks I'm recording it using the synths MIDI?
Then I record it in CEP with the other tracks muted?

Sounds like it makes sense.
