Pro Tools Mac VS Nuendo PC

Hi,
I'm new to Computer based recording and I'm trying to decide b/t a Pro Tools (digi 001-002) Mac system or a Pc based Nuendo system. Right now I have just a Roland VSR-880 to record to and charge people to come in and record. We get pretty good sounds(it's a pretty cool little unit) but we're limited to the features of the VSR. I've visited both Pro Tools studios and Nuendo studios and like the sounds they're getting. I'm leaning toward the Nuendo system b/c for the money you seem to get a whole lot more than what 001 and 002 offer. I don't think I can afford going with a higher end PT system right now. I care little about saying "I run Pro Tools" or about big control surfaces. This will be and is more than just a demo/postproduction studio. We're putting out good sounding full cd's for bands on a budget. If anyone has any suggestions or comments I'd appreciate the response. Below is a list of my gear and a system overview of the two systems I'm looking at.

First the systems, buit by a pro that build these systems for quiet a few people/studios

PRO TOOLS/MAC

Apple G4 Dual 867 1,694.00

Intel D845GBVL Motherboard 125.99
Pentium 4 2.4GHz Processor (533 FSB) 209.99

Matrox G550 Dual Head Video Card 99.99
Western Digital 40gig Hard Drive (system and programs 84.99
Western Digital 80gig Hard Drive w/ Removable Drive Bay (Audio only) 140.00
Lite On 48x CDR/RW 69.99
Mitsumi Floppy 11.99
Universal Audio UAD-1 DSP Card 599.99

includes setup and configuration of software and sound cards
Subtotal: 4,958.85
Sales Tax: 409.11
TOTAL: 5,367.96

on this one for now I'll get just two deltas but keep the UAD-1 DSP card. I can actually get the 10/10's for 500 ea and the UAD for $550. so the price will be lower than stated.

I'm using a brand new Allen and Heath 16:2 DX Mixer (sounds great) for my front end when recording drums etc. I have a Joe Meek VC3Q (vaccu-opto compressor, pre, eq). Tube MP, Behringer Compressor, Midi Verb 4. MICs Rode NT2, Octava Mk-012's (6)- SM-57's, Beta 58, Cad Drum Mics (just use the bass drum mic for floor tom) and a D-112 for kick. My control room is an old bed room with some acoustic treatment. The tracking room is about 20'20 vaulted ceiling and soon to be hard wood floors. I'll be adding class A dual pre and dual compressor later if plug ins don't satisfy my needs. Thanks for any thoughts, sorry this post is so long.

calling 001/002 " pro tools " will probably get you a HEAP of animosity, so I'd be careful

the nuendo/native syste, you have will beat the living crap out of the oo1 system you listed, and without the digidesigns I/O and track count limitations

I would change that to a 400 or 450 watt power supply, and the converters you listed on the oo1 setup would go nice with an RME 9652 instead of the midimans, but thats your call

for the audio drive, I would go with one of the western digital JB jumbo buffer ( 8 meg cache) drives. One of these upped my track count SO high it was unbelievable. Put in a removable bay for clients and load and unload from there to the JB drive

Why is that?

Thats the proper name of the software that came with my 001 package.

I have never seen any animosity over someone calling 001/2 "Pro Tools" around here... maybe thats a different bbs

that final price seems a little high..
as for the computer.. i STRONGLY recommend that you buy a Sonic Blade DAW my cousin ordered one and let me tell you.. its fast as sh!t number 1, its stable, they're cheap and its fairly quiet... my cousin ordered the Sonic Hammer DAW.
its still all intel.. its a 2.5gig over clocked to 2.8 with 533fsb ETC...http://sonicblade.com/products.htm

3 delta 1010's...why? and just to let you know from someone that uses delta 1010's.. you won't get 2 to work under xpPro with out blue screens like crazy(unstable) so i highly doubt 3 will work... why do you need 30i/o?? (24 1/4" i/o's)

if you really need 3 1010's($550ea) use windows 2000pro.. it should work with mulit 1010's...

as for nuendo.. i'd buy it off ebay.. 575-899(http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=924087754) this seller has a reserve of $575 and olny 2 days left.. i'd get a hold of that..
itsn't nuendo 2 gonna be released soon??

now for the price of these computers i can custom build you one that would blow them both away for just about the same price.. but i'm not talking about a intel 2.5gig.. how about a dual athlon MP2000;) email me and i can give you all the details..

delta 10/10s and computer ?

I was going to use just 2 delta 10/10's. I need 16 track input to Nuendo. I want to be able to have 10 or so drum mics, gtr, bass, vox, etc, etc. We'll track the drums this way and we can keep the bass and gtr tracks if they are good parts, if nothing else they'll all be there to reference the drum track with. The 10/10's will run about $500 ea. As far as the computer, I don't really know what to do, eveyone you talk to says somthing different. Supposedly this is the same computer hardware/software set up used by the Dixie Chicks on their last album which I'm told sounds great. How do you make a wise choice on computer/hardware etc.
Thanks JJ.

People, you have to realize there is no need for XP Pro if your system only has 1 CPU! You definetly don't need Pro if you are not going to use Remote Desktop or log on to a Domain type network. Pro and Home are the same in every other aspect - I have used both.

Save money and just buy XP Home...

Unless you can get in on one those developer deals Microsoft periodically offers. I got XP Pro and a bunch of other bullshit for $30 a few weeks ago.

its still not gonna help if he wants to run multi 1010's.. he's gonna have to use win2000... as for music production programs.. i find xpPro to be 3x more stable than home, especially when running long sessions, or mixing.. i was mixing a song under nuendo with xphome.. it kept freezing... i had a xppro cd around so i installed it..not 1 problem...not to mention the cpu meter went down, the computer seemed a little faster.. for the last 8months i haven't had 1 problem from xppro...execpt trying 2 delta 1010's... 1 way i did get it to work..VMware...i had VMware load up 2000.

Before buying 2 or 3 deltas why dont you like at the new motu 24i/o, 24 ins and outs, all on one device, so you dont have to worry about whether two will work. I have the 24i, and older model with 24 ins and only one stereo out, and it sounds great.

I think the price is about $1200-1400, so more than two but less than three deltas
