how high is too high to set the master volume on a preamp its not peaking or anything but i heard if you turn the volume to the max it adds distortion right now my preamp is set on 8 and it goes up to 10. setup:tlm-103,eureka presonus, echo mia soundcard, dell computer.

I think its my post to you that you may be refering to. As you know there are two "volume" knobs. Actually ones a gain knob on the far left of the piece and then a master volume at far right. What I was talking about was a fellow studio guy came by to do some light recording on my rig, he was cranking the gain knob up and eventhough it said it wasn't clipping you could hear a lot of distortion. After his complaints I looked at what he did and turned the gain down, way down and the master volume up to about 2, distortion was gone. All I can say for you is if you're not getting distortion and your happy with what you're getting then there is no problem having the master volume up to 8.
