Preamp question

When going directly into a digidesign 888/24 is it necessary or beneficial to go into a instrument preamp first
 
I just quickly googled it to see what it was and from what I read it accepts line level signals so, you'll need a pre amp to get the levels up to par going in. That's just my instant take on it though. Plus Digidesign has discontinued that product. I don't know if they stop supporting products once they are discontinued, but beware if they do. You'll be stuck if something goes wrong and you haven't got a clue how to fix it.
 
What are you plugging into the 888/24? And where are you plugging it in?

If you are talking about plugging a guitar directlry into a line-input, I will guarantee it will sound like a*s :)
