PreAmp and Omni

ok..so i have a Omni Studio Interface.(http://www.m-audio.com/index.php?do=products.focus&ID=ece56c6762d7f5440c52b8a67b37fb38)

Now my question is...
If i buy an external preamp...will it work if i run the outs from that into the 3+4 inputs on the Omni?

I want to do this for reocording drums or sometime where i need more than the 2 preamps on the front of the Omni. I do have a mixer...(A Behringer EURORACK UB2222FX-PRO) but im not happy with those preamps at all. So instead of sending the subgroup signal of my mixer to the 3+4 input of the Omni...I just wanna buy a preamp and run that into my Omni...instead of using my mixer. I hope this makes sense..Hope you can help..thanks
 
Yup, that's what I do. I have an RNP/RNC combo that I run into the line in 3/4 of my Omni. I was having a bit of trouble, but it had more to do with the cabling between the RNP and RNC and nothing to do with the Omni ins.
