I'm looking for suggestions for a two-channel (or more) recorder. I do most of my recording by computer but would like to be able to go "on location" and do basically "live" recordings simply (i.e. not track-at-a-time). I've found - not that I wish to debate the issue here - computer editing to be very useful but for recording itself more of a hindrance than a help. I'm perfectly happy setting up a stereo pair or using an acoustic mixer.
So, I'm looking for a recording device whose files can be taken for successive editing on a PC (I use Adobe Audition) i.e. I need digital uncompressed output. Would the Fostex mr-8 mkii be a good choice? What else would you recommend?
By portable I mean something I can easily move (maybe even throw it into my carry-on) it need not be battery powered.
What I record: small classical ensembles (brass and strings mostly), acoustic fiddle/guitar/dobro
What I have:
Microphones: Shure SM57, Studio Projects B1, MXL 990, MXL 991, RODE NT2k, Nady SP-5
Mic Pre: Behringer MIC100, Grace 101
Mixer: Yamaha MG10/2 (analogue)
Effects: t c electronics m300
thanks,
Sathyan
