Pops and clicks with Digi 001

I did some recording last night, and it was fine. Now all of sudden pops and clicks...you really notice it when the instrument dynamics are loud...

my setup:
Digi 001 on a Dell windows XP. Pro tools 5.3.1 LE.
DCS AD converter set as master into digi 001 spdif input. monitoring the spdif output via a lucid DA9624. when I hit the record button to monitor what I'm playing I hear the pops and clicks. I tried the hardware setup and having the clock set to internal and spdif; same problem.

any ideas?

adjust your buffer size, look in the setups preferences menu
