Today I got a CAD Trion 8000 tube mic. I was really excited to use it and hear a major difference from my MXL 990, but wasn't impressed. What can I do in adobe audition to get a similar sound to www.myspace.com/chasecoy - song "Take Me Away" (3rd from bottom) or top song if you are lazy :P

I'm going to be doing similar style, just acoustic and vocal. I don't understand the compresson (dynamics) in Adobe Audition - http://images.digitalmedianet.com/2007/Week_25/0ra7bf9i/story/audition compressor.jpg

and the EQ (for those who dont know) looks like this in the prog - http://images.digitalmedianet.com/2006/Week_5/0khghhf4/story/new_eq550.jpg

here is a RAW RECORDING of the quality I get before mixing -

I run my CAD Trion 8000 tube mic to my M-Audio MobilePre straight to my computer, I know about mic placement, and adding delay and panning and whatnot, so with that said...

please help me, because I am on the verge of giving up and selling my recording equipment... :(

i hate to say it but the 990 is actually a really nice mic lol. people don't wanna believe it cuz its so in expensive but it very comparable

as far as your song goes, the sound is actually really nice, i mean you could add a little reverb and a stereo spreader to give it some more body but i like your sound.

sometimes i use 2 991's to record guitar. one in front of the acoustic hole and one at the 12th fret.

home this helps a little but you shouldn't have to do too much

PS. sometimes i like to EQ the bass up when i do acoustic tracks so it sounds fuller seeing as how there's usually no bass guitar

Alot is going to depend on the guitar itself and the room you are recording in. Adding some absorption panels to your studio will help lessen the room sound. Then you can play around with reverbs to get get the right space. It also sounds like that myspace guy is blending a microphone with a direct input from the guitar.

Your playing is very nice and the mic itself is doing a good job. However, I agree with scrubs. In think you need some room treatment. I hear a lot of room sound (boxiness) in the recording .

For the room, to start, try hanging sleeping bags or moving blankets on mic stands in a V behind you as you play and behind the mic. This should get rid of most of the higher frequency early reflections from the room. If too much of the highs are removed, you can take down one of the filters.

How big a room are you recording in?
