Has anybody tried any of the single coil pickups that are made to sound like a humbucker? If so, what'd ya think?

No but i've used humbuckers that are the size of single coil pickups. Seymour Duncan Hotrails.

No single coil pickup will sound like a humbucker, because a humbucker samples a string at two places that have different harmonic content, and therefore there are frequency reinforcements (positive and negative) that get dialed into the sound that a single coil pickup won't have.

There are "hot" single coil pickups that generate more signal and therefore overdrive an amp more easily, and there are stacked humbucking single coil pickups that give a single coil sound with the benefit of humbucking, and there are narrow humbuckers that pick up signal from the strings at points very close together so that the pos/neg reinforcement is not as pronounced.

The Carvin Twinblade Pickups are really good, although they are not as thick sounding as their normal size humbucker. I have heard that Carvin's Customer support is starting to go down hill though. :(
