Pickups and Switchable Passive/Active Bass Guitars

I'm assuming that active guitar pickups don't contain any electronics in the pickups, right? If I ever decide to replace the pickups on my switchable active/passive electric bass, I'm assuming I'd go with pickups designed for passive use and trust that the electronics can cope with the possibly higher output, but I wanted to get opinions before I considered such a hack.

BTW, any suggestions about good 6-string bass pickups? :D

Depends on the pickup. EMG's have a preamp built into the pickup. Bartolini pickups are passive, but can be used with active electronics.

As far as which pickups to use, it depends on the sound you are after.
