Phanton Power

There are several wall-wart powered inline phantom boxes available, and they will do a decent enough job for $40-50.

The one that comes immediately to mind is the Rolls PB23, which is available at Guitar Center and most midsize music stores. If you buy it from there _make sure_ that they also sell you the matching wall-wart. A favorite trick of theirs is to sell the unit without the wall-wart, and it's inexplicably designed for the opposite polarity of 90% of the other wall-warts in the world. And it burns up intantly if you use it with the wrong polarity, and they won't warranty it since the wall-wart wasn't their problem... So you get to buy another one. Caveat emptor.

It's a pretty terrible piece, but it does work. Alternatively, you could go with a standalone external preamp like the Midiman Audio Buddy, which does have phantom built in. You can then go out of the preamp and into the line in on your board.

The price is nearly the same- GC was actually _giving_ the Audio Buddy away with the purchase of a mic last summer. It's actually not a bad little preamp- and it might even be better than the pres in your board. Most boards with upper-level pres have phantom, so if you have a non-phantom-capable board, going with an external pre might be an all-around win.
