Phantom power in the 488 mkII

Hey, I recently picked up a very-slightly-used tascam 488 mkII in Pusan, Korea (It's close to where I live.) It didn't come with a manual, but since I'd previously owned a Yamaha MT8X, it was pretty easy to figure out how to use it.

Here's something that's bothering me, though: I want to run my AKG condenser though the balanced XLR input. At what point do I switch on the phantom powere? What is the order: switch on the machine, plug in the mic, turn on the phantom power, and then the mic last? I don't want to fry anything!

Your help is very much appreciated!

Always have the phantom power switched off before plugging in the mic. The power status of the machine shouldn't matter.
