Painting a Guitar...

I know of nowhere else to ask this, so why not ask it here?

Does anyone have any links to articles, or know themselves, what type of paint would be good for painting a guitar. (A Fender Cyclone, specifically.) Should you use primer? Do you have to peel off the original layer first?

A friend of mine is gonna do it on my guitar as a project, and my gf's always wanted an electric, so if it works out, it'll make a nice gift.

Thanks.

I'm not real sure about stripping the old finish, you might run into compatability problems, if you have one of the thick industrial urethane finishes, but I'm not sure. Automotive laquer is easy to work with and touch up. If you don't have a spray set up, get aeresol cans, you'll want to prime first, with a compatable primer, but only after filling any spots that need it and thoughly sanding. Move this post to the guitar forum, I'm sure Light can tell you the proper way to go about your project.
