PA Amp Head for pushing a guitar cab??

Hey. Anybody ever use a PA Amplifier Head to power a cabinet (mine's 4x12) for a guitar. I've got all the preamps and sound modeling I need. Is there a reason I need to get a head specifically known as a "guitar" head? Thanks.

Once upon a time I used to play a Rockman into a pair of Peavey CS-200's into a pair of SP-2's. It sounded awsome. It was just a one trick pony though.

i could understand if you already had a p.a. head and didn't want to spring for a guitar amp head....but if you gonna go out and buy something why wouldn't you look for a guitar head?

it will sound better

I used to have my preamp (Marshall JMP1) going to a Yamaha power amp (NOT for guitar). Didn't sound all that bad, and it was a cheap 2nd hand. The thing is that these amps are designed NOT to color too much, and a guitar amp is designed to color. Even the poweramps are designed to color. And thus they sound better....
