outputting the delay or reverb from one track to another

I have heard of people doing this and wanted to play around with it. Usually I just double the track and offset it a few ms. I was reading on here somewhere where people were running the effect out into another track. Basically creating a track of just the delay or reverb and panning that to the opposite side of the original recording. Is this a good idea? How would you do it in Reaper? I have no idea how to use the buses and stuff yet.

Heres a simple example of delaying the vocals slightly, using sends

Note in this example the sends are post fader, so that changing the volume of the main vocal track will have an effect on the delay volume as well. You can change these to prefader sends depending on how you want to deal with it.

Click the I/O button on the main vocal track or either of the delay tracks to see whats going on
