opinions on Se 2200T

Guys,
I can buy a new Se2200T for 275 euros and I've been looking for an affordable tube mic for some time now. SOS says it's good, but they always say that. Anyusers of this particular mic around here? Can't be worse that the 2200a and that's a well respected mic...I've heard it myself and found it a little on the bright side, but then again maybe the tube smoothes that a bit? http://www.seelectronics.com/sE2200T.html

The Amy Winehouse link is for a sE2200A.
This video was made long before the sE2200T (the tube version) was released last month.

The OP is interested in the 2200T

Not sure that she 'used' this mic at all, just a prop for a video shoot in this case.

That could be true...but it was so lo-fi that it really could have been a cheap chinese mic.

Im kinda curious about the Rupet Neve designed ribbons they say they are coming out with.

Oh I know they are charging enough for them...problem with that marketing is if people are going to have to choose between Se and Neumaan they are going to choose the neumaan every time...and Se will eventually blow them out at a $400 price point...by then it will be too late.

Its hard to offer an opinion on anything brand new...besides waiting 6 months will allow people to review them at the sites and for the companies to get the initial bugs out of things.
sE is alot like other chinese mic companies like MXL or Studio Projects...some good stuff some bad...if all mics were chinese...Id probubly own one myself.

Darrin, Darrin, Darrin.
sE is NOT like a lot of other chinese mics.

Do you think Rupert Neve would collaborate with MXL or Studio Projects?
Please read this: http://mixonline.com/news/headline/seelectronics_rupertneve_microphones_1205/ and this http://www.seelectronics.com/sE_RNR1.html
Amy Winehouse only person using sE Mics?
How about Don Was, Stevie Wonder and others.

All you need to do is try out a 4400a or Gemini II or TITAN or the Neve Ribbon and you just may change your "tune" :D

I know...I mentioned it above...sE does have those set at a really high price point so the quality had better be good.

Malcom Toft and Steven Paul have allready collaberated with studio projects...I think sE would be better served with a Neve preamp design than a mic...since that is where his background would suggest his skills would be strongest...but the results will be seen in the next few months when it hits the streets and they pass them arround to the engineers to create a buzz.

And as far as Stevie Wonder is concerned Ive only seen him in studio with an Telefunken Elam...but like Ive said before if you read it on thier site...they paid him to say it most likely...Ill be more ready to believe that when I see it.

Bobby!
Check out the Sound On Sound Magazine Review by Paul White in the August 09 issue. As I remember it, White said that there are many sonic similarities between the tube and FET versions but the tube added some warmth and depth.

It also appears to have a flatter response than the regular FET SE2200A.
Check this out as well. http://www.seelectronics.com/sE2200T.html

Have they done a review on the Neve Ribbons yet...id think they might have to have some kind of buzz in the industry right now.

Sound On Sound did a review in May 2009 on the Rupert Neve/sE Ribbon mic.
They used Neve designed hand wound input and output transformers in it that adds extended range on top and bottom. ("An Unprecedented 20Hz to 25KHz Frequency Response")
They did shoot outs with a number other ribbons (Royer etc) and the only mic that came close was the $4000.00 AEA R44 ribbon.

PS-James from Sonic Distribution UK offered me the chance to try out the Neve RNR1 but I declined as I don't have the budget to purchase one.
-Also in regards to sE Electronics Microphones, Rupert Neve's company that distributes his new 5088 consoles and Portico line are now the Distributor for sE Electronics in the U.S.
-I ALSO find it interesting that the new sE Electronics SE2000 mic is "transformer balanced"

But it is close enough in price too.

Id like to wait until I can afford a really good one...Shure has released a couple of ribbons in the KSM line at the $1500-2500 price point...too bad they wern't included in the comparison...I curious of how it compares now...I dont think they would make a bad one either.

In the back of my mind too Id be to freaked thinking Id turn on the phantom power and dystroy it anyhow.

May issue of SOS reviewed very well (the article is still pay to read for the next couple of months).
They did a shootout in London, Courtney Pine and some friends, sE ribbon Vs Royer Vs AEA.
Each mic came out top for different uses.
They placed the sE as in the same class as the Royer and AEA.
