For anyone with a 8,12 or 16 onyx i firewire mixer.

Will using a firewire to usb cable and plugging into a USB port work? Curious if it would function by doing that conversion? Or do I have to go firewire all the way?

So few of the newer laptops have firewire built in. I guess its not widely used.
 
This seems to be a trend among laptop manufacturers.

Laptops are now powerful enough to easily perform multi-track audio recording and the standard for audio I/O is being phased out.
