Okay - Let's Talk About These DAC Thingees!

I'm new here so I need everyone's opinion on the usage of the DAC. Is it beneficial "during" the recording process to get the best sonic recording - or is it best to apply it to the finished, mixed and mastered product?

Has anyone used the "METRUM" brand out of the Netherlands?

Let me know your thoughts please (before I screw something up!) :rolleyes:
 
Well, you kind of need a DAC to hear whatever goes through an ADC. But both are built into the typical audio interface and integrated to minimize latency. Either way, it doesn't affect the sound in any direct way. At most it will slightly affect how you hear the playback which could alter the way you mix, but only if it actually sounds noticeably different from the DAC built into your interface.

You haven't already gone and bought one without knowing what it's for, have you?
 
The playback conversion doesn't effect the final rendered files.
