I was driving to work today, and NPR had a piece on Dolly Parton. I don't own any Dolly Parton albums and 9 to 5 is the only one of her songs I can name, but
she did have some advice I thought everybody here might be interested in.
She said she in order to write and sing the type of music she wanted to do (Bluegrass/Mountain/Country), she had to be financially successful in other things otherwise she would starve.
Granted everybody has a different story and path, but I did find her honesty about the subject interesting.
