[Noob Alert] Hardwares needed for recording vocals

I'm gonna use a computer to record. My sound card is Asus Xonar Essence STX. Now can you guys tell me exactly what components I need to buy? A decent mic - ok. Then? Will it work straight away with the card or do I need anything else to make the mic work? Mixers.. amps.. I know nothing about them. Enlighten me :) Will they be necessary?
 
The specs look pretty good for that card, drawback is the input - stereo minijack.
Probably best to get a decent USB or Firewire audio interface.
What's your budget? What are you planning on recording?
You'll need a mic, monitors, headphones, accessories like mic stand and cables.
