No sound in Home Studio XL..help!

I just installed Home Studio XL and I cannot hear the playback of anything...even the sample songs that came with Cakewalk. I know that my sound card and speakers are working fine because I can hear sounds from every other program on my system. In fact, I installed n-track studio and I can hear the playback fine.

I read through the trouble-shooting section of the help file and the various settings/configuration are correct.

Does anyone have any thoughts on what else I can try?

Have you tried sounding a softsynth?
Did you check the software mixer for your soundcard?
Did you check for any solo or mute buttons that may be on?
Are the sample songs midi only?If so the tracks must be assigned to a viable output(ie an external synth or the vsc dxi)
Did you run your wave profiler?s
sonar/options/audio/general

I believe there may be a sample song with audio tracks try playing that.

Thanks for the suggestions. I tried to create a new project and selected the 8TR Audio format. Once I imported some Wav files (drum loops, etc.) I could actually hear the playback. I guess I had some some of the MIDI based samples...none were audio.

Great.....now I can have fun.
