Ok so i hear all this talk of...."oh this microphone is good for this" this one is better than this....
How can i get my ears to hear these differences. Any techniques to mix and match different setups with different mics? is there somewhere online or something i can take a listen to compare microphones?

My supplies are very limited.
I have 3 different mics.
2 sm 57s
4 sm58s
2 sm94s

i am also thinking about getting
AKG d112
AKG c419,c418 in a package for drums.

various guitar,keyboard,bass amps

thanks

The best way I can think of is the good old-fashioned way ...do some test recordings with the same source audio and compare the results. You'll probably have to do a wide variety of testing to get the full picture. You can always compare specs, but that doesn't always give you an accurate picture.

I remember the days when you could demo mics in the music stores. Nowadays, they won't let you hear it unless you're buying it. I probably wouldn't have bought my Oktava MK219 if I'd been able to demo it in the store.

Mars does have a mic room with demo mics set up, but they never seem to have the ones out that I'm looking for.
