Newbie Setup Questions

I've finally decided on my setup & I plan to make my purchase at the end of Jan. (can't wait!). I'm starting off with the Alesis Q6.2, Tascam 2488, Boss DR 670, Cubase SL3, and an AKG brand condensor mic.

I'll be using the Tascam to do the majority of the recording until I upgrade to a better soundcard or audio interface on the PC.

I know the Tascam has enough tracks to record the keyboard & drum machine in stereo... But in the occassion that I want to free up more tracks for more arrangements & vocals... How should I convert the stereo outputs into one track... use a Y converter for the two outputs? or Can I just use 1 output (either the left or right)?

Also, is it possible to use the Tascam as an interface to a PC software program such as Cubase (using MIDI or USB connections possibly). I'm just wondering if I can use the mixer on the Tascam instead of buying another audio interface for my PC ( ...in other words, using the recorder to bypass my soundcard for audio input)

Any feedback you guys can provide would be greatly appreciated.
