New mixer...need help!!!!

For those of you who helped in my last thread...Mackie VS Behringer...I really appreciate your help!! Funny thing though i ended up buying the Tascam TM-D1000.....funny how things work out...

I need help getting the right connections for this thing....I have to admit, I have never used an analog mixer before..let alone a digital one...all this stuff about busses, and different ins and outs has me a little boggled.....

On my mixer it has an S/PDIF out I am hoping to use to connect to my Event Layla sound card...will the S/PDIF connection allow me to mix my tracks on the Tascam....or is the S/PDIF simply for two track masters????

Spid/if is for two channels.. L and R, usually. I use the T/DIF ports to keep my traks seperate, but your layla has no T/DIF.
