new drive no spyware/virus

I'm getting a new external hard drive and was wondering if there was a way to make sure that I don't transfer any spyware/malware/virus/etc. to it via my other external hard drive or any flash discs.

I was thinking, to be safe, that I should reinstall my operating system and format a new flash disc and transfer all my songs via a freshly formatted flash drive, to the new drive.

Virus and malware normally have to reside on your C: drive in order to do thier dirty work.

A scan of all your current drives with good anti-virus software should be enough.

any of the free ones will do. I recommend MicroSoft Security Essentials. You might even add AdAware if you're not confident.

If you already have AV software, make sure it's up to date and do a complete(all drives) scan.
