My educated guess would be that it's an interesting effect for the price, but inconsistent from one to the next, noisy and somewhat fragile.
In short, typical of low-end Asian production with low-end passive components. Behringer's no worse about this than a couple of dozen other low-end brands.
If you could cherry-pick through a few, you might get a gem, though, and if they've gone to sub-miniature suface-mount robotic production, they might be better than expected.
What I don't quite get is where the "modeling" is, and the "truckload of great amps."
