Neumann M147 Large condensor tube

I use a M147 Neumann tube mic on all my
acoustic work. I love the sound; It was a
big penny too - two grand! With the
right placement and room, it is warm, warm,
warm. Some say it sounds like digital clarity
with the warmth of analog. Well, I must
confess I use a Tascam 16 track one inch
analog unit too. The mic is the key to it all
however.

Well, you don't seem to have a question... You just seem to have a nice mic. Congratulations on your nice mic.

Hi Charger,

Sometimes I list results of new gear.
I have often bought gear as a result of
reading what others have logged. I
think questions and documentation
can be helpful for the web site.

Take care

Ok. Just didn't quite get it. I'd be interested to hear how this mic stacks up against the new Rode... even though I think the Rode is supposed to sound like a 149, not a 147...

Hi Charger,

Interesting thought you raised. I have yet
to hear a Rode, but am anxious to do so.
I certainly like the price of the Rode. - As
far as the M147 vrs the 149, Neumann says
they both come from the same make-up
as the 87. I would imagine the differences
are hard to hear. This I do know, the M147
design came out within the last two to three
years or so. - How about the Rode, does it
capture an acoustic guitar in a warm way?
My biggest difficulty in the past has been
high string edginess. It seems almost all
mics have a problem with it; about the 1K
frequency. Getting a clear thick bass sound
while trying to cut the edge of high strings
can be a difficult balancing trick.
Any suggestions?

Chuck
