i need to know what to do to use my fostex fd-4 digital 4-track with cakewalk 8 .....mainly to mix and add effect to my tracks and or record using the four track imputs and mixer but record directly to cakewalk there is midi in and out ports on the four track what should/could i do...

The midi ports are likely for sync and midi machine control (i.e. cakewalk tells the four track when to start and stop recording) It won't be of any use for transfering audio. Is there a digital output on your machine? If it does, you could transfer the tracks to the computer, with a suitable audio card, and then work in cakewalk.

I don't know, anybody else have any ideas?
