Need advice on audio interfaces

Hi,

I need some advice on audio interfaces for my upcoming home studio.

Here are my requirements:
o) At least 8 ch analog in
o) At least 16 ch analog out
o) 24bit/48khz (96 preferable)
o) LED meters (at least for the inputs)
o) No mic pres (my beautiful analog mixer has 32 mic pres)

In the perfect world, I would find an audio interface containing 12 A/D with LED meters and 24 D/A.

The audio interface will be connected to a PC, probably running Cubase. I will mostly use Cubase as a digital multitracker (I was first thinking of buying Fostex D2424). All mixing will be done with my analog mixer. I will mostly be using outboard effects as well.

The only audio interface that seems to meet my requirements (and within my price range) so far, is the MOTU 1296… Ok, it only got 12 analog outs. I would be very happy if I could find a unit that contains 12 D/A converters. Then, I would have 12in/24out (if used together with 1296).

What do you think? Should I go for the MOTU 1296 and then buy an another I run out of output channels?

Thanks,
Jonas
