My Cable Is Too Long

As I've heard, I have to connect my NTK to its power supply, then the power supply to the preamp and finally the preamp to the soundcard. woosh!
My room starting to look like the backstage of a concert with all those cables.
Just wondering, won't all those cables pick up a lot of noise?
I mean, are there microphone cables out there shorter than 3 feet?

Balanced XLR cable is theoretically rated to 1000'. You can get XLR cables as short as 6".

Good quality XLR cable is usually fine up to a few hundred feet but I've never gone longer than that. It's the unbalanced cable that gets pretty noisy after about 10-20'.

When in doubt shorter is better but if it aint broke don't waste money to fix it.

Fespinal, you need to manage the cable better for your needs. Get some velcro cable ties, and keep the excess cable wound loose, out of the way, and in general, *power* cords should not run over mic cables. If you don't know how to use a soldering iron, learn. Get some Neutrik connectors and cut down a couple of cables to make shorter ones.-Richie
