My 4-track is picking up radio stations!?!?!

Hi all,

I'm having a problem with my 4-track picking up a radio station. It seems to have something to do with the mic and maybe also it's boom stand. What's going on here and how can I get rid of this? It's showing up on my recordings!

That's usually a good indicator of a broken or badly shielded cable - if you notice it only with your mic connected I would look at the mic cable....

Could be a High Impedance mic...

The problem may also be the use of a high impedance mic with a long and inexpensive mic cable. You may want to try a low Z mic, and if your recorder doesn't have a low Z input, try using a matching transformer.
