MXL V67 positioning for loud vocals...

Hello guys,

I got my V67 yesterday and I already tried it on a session that a had.
The singer could sing loud, and I had the V67 around 4" away from it's mouth.
Is it too close? I could hear the "almost distorting" sound when he went pretty loud...
What do you guys suggest? I didn't really had the time to try with it yesterday...

Not to sound mean, but you did try turning the levels down right? All mics sound bad if the levels are way too high.

One other thought. Did the mic sound ok to begin with? I purchased a V67 from 8thstreet.com and it was damaged. Luckily they are a great company and I had another 5 days later.

Other than that if levels are too hott there is going to be distortion.

teach him mic technique also...when he goes really loud he should be backing away from the mic......
