motu 828 ADAT out to rme hdsp - doesn't work??

for years i worked with my motu 828, caused me lots of headaches,
switched to RME which i adore

but here's my new problem, i do want to use the 8 analog inputs of my motu,
now i have an ADAT cable running between the Motu (adat)out and the RME (adat)in


i have no signal coming in my DAW (and yes i did select the correct RME adat input), the RME card recognises an adat input (...synchronising...adat lock...)

but there's no audio entering my computer...

i thought the Motu828 also was a converter? or why is there an ADAT OUT on this machine?

i'm going to connect my Behringer ada8000 to my RME to see if this thing passes audio

think i'm totally done with Motu.... oh yeah and there's no manual available for the MK1
