I have been having a problem getting the volume levels of my drums high enough in the final mix on my Yamaha MD-8. I borrowed a small Behringer mixer and ran my mics through it then into the Yamaha and got much better results. Is this doing the same basic thing as an external pre-amp? Would purchasing external pre's for each of the four mic's I"m using on the drums give me better results and be worth the $ spent?
