more EQ control

My (guitar) amp has only a Bass and a Treble control but I would like to be able to shape the midrange. Assuming that I don't want to buy a new amp to perform this function, what is the best way to add more EQ control without introducing too much noise to the signal chain?

1. Add an inline 7-band EQ pedal like Danelectro Fish&Chips (or suggest other)
2. Add a rack equalizer like Behringer FBQ1502 (or suggest other)
can this go inline or in FX loop?

I see that MXR (Dunlop) also has a pedal-type EQ. None of these pedals seem to be specified for THD or S/N

Would a "home audio" equalizer work?

The Behringer and the Kenwood EQs you mention are designed to work at line level, which is way hotter than what comes out of your guitar. I'd go with a guitar specific EQ.

You want the EQ in line before the amp, not in the effects loop.
