my 2 cents....
looking back form my monitorthing,
fhk the store listening test...doesn't mean sht in the end. (i did 2 tests, ~4-6hrs total)
just make sure the store has a good return policy.
you'll have to get it down to a few pairs and try em at home,
on your desk with your room, your music. burn a CDr or two and see how they translate...and you'll know if you like em.

My brother just bought the M-Audio BX8 pair for $400.00 from Guitar Center with a 30-day return policy of he doesn't like them. I've been playing with them and I think they sound good (quiet, good response from all frequencies) - but his room is no pro setup, just an ordinary room, so I can't give a real review. Considering the conditions, however, they sounded good. Check Guitar Center for a similar return policy on other monitors and test out what you like.
