Monitoring Headphones

Does anyone know of any good monitoring headphones that are a good deal that block out enough external noise? Ive got a pair of Vic Firth SIH1's which are really good, but i need another couple of pairs and i bought the Vic Firths in the UK (we don't have them in NZ).

Is a closed back sufficient enough to block out the external sound? What specifications should i look for when buying a pair of studio Monitoring headphones?

Thanks

James

I don't know if too many folks do serious mixing with cans but the Audio-Technica M-50s might work to some extent. You can read my review in this forum.

The cans rotate so that they can face you directly and you can listen to the sounds coming through. But, as per usual, what you hear through the cans, any of them, isn't what you usually get when you listen to the mix. But, you be the judge. The best USA price I could find on these cans was 149.00, shipping included from Sweetwater.

New Zeeland, if that's what the letters mean, is certainly a beautiful country.
