Monitor thru my AMC Gremlin?

I'm just about ready to monitor thru something different than my headfones.
I have the Tascam 414mkiii and do not really want to get a rack unit amp and higher end monitor speakers. I'm thinking low tech maybe even thru a boombox
just to test the mix. Any one have a workable lowcost idea?

hmm?

really really cheap? hmmm....?

i've yet to hear a good boombox, but i follow your idea- cheap.
Headphones no good.
Active PC speakers maybe even better ~$50?

Then I think my vote would be SAVE & go Active ~6.5" monitors..
i know gearheads don't like the term but... SAVE some $$$
and at least get in entry level with like Wharfedales 8.2A ~$300.
or Guitar center stuff...then your really sittin' good for some time.
I prefer Passive, once you get an amplifier...
your speakers are 50% cheaper next upgrade.

If $300 sounds like a thousand....
Look for a used Yamaha with a direct/bypass switch or an old
discrete amp- with no tuner/nothing else just an amp.
Then grab the best speakers you can find cheap. garage sale,
pawn shop. ... ads...

I foudn out the hard way, "buy cheap, buy twice"
or three times in my case!
.

I like the Gremlin idea. But only if it has a puffer, like so...

my first car was a powder blue 1974 AMC Gremlin. the hatch didn't work, reverse didn't work, it had no power steering or power brackes, no air conditioning, and only an AM radio.

perfect car for a 16 year old who can't drive worth a sh**.
