Monitor Suggestions

$1000.00 is my limit. Looking for active or passive monitors w/ amp for PC based recording. By now I'm totally undecided by all the info I've seen.

Try the Event 20/20's. A Hafler P1500 power amp with the passive ones would work quite well for you, and should stay within your budget.

For those of you who are too lazy to follow Gidge's link, his suggestion was the latest HomeRec favorite JBL LSR25p.

I second that suggestion. Use the extra $500 for some mics or maybe a sub.

Is a sub woofer really needed w/ a good set of monitors?

Needed? nope.

Do people use subs? yup.

Do I? nope.

The Mackies are generally regarded as a good choice in monitors. Are they worth the extra $760? If I were you, I'd find a shop and A/B them first.

Look for used Mackie HR824's. You could probably find a pair for a grand. They just receive the Lucas Film THX certification.

In other words they just paid Lucasfilms a bunch of money to use their THX logo. Funny how such varied products with equally varied characteristics can all fall within the THX standard.
