I was in a pinch and needed some extra preamps.

I bought this because it was really cheap.

I don't really need a low quality pre amp around any more and opened it up to see the circuit.

It is very simple and I was thinking about replacing the components with low tolerance resistors and capcitors and replacing the IC chip with the NE5532(right now it contains a chip similar to the one in the old Ibanez Tube screamer)

Has anyone ever tryed this is it worth my time?

Interested in any opinion,
DAN!

I've had great luck getting some of my cheaper stuff moded. But then I bought stuff that was fairly well-known as being upgradable, and I sent it to guys who knew what they were doing.

From what I gather, most anything can get a boost of improvement by using higher-quality caps, as well as better opamps -- provided there are drop-in type replacements available that spec out and/or sound better. I suppose there might be some better options besides the 5532's. I'd ask around a little bit.
