Hello all, can anyone link me to a basic explanation of what mixing and FX are all about? My band's done some DIY recording and our bassist is going to mix it. He's done a music tech course so he knows his stuff but I wanna be able to communicate properly to him the ideas I have in my head and not just be saying "make it sound bigger".
I guess reverb is one of the things I would most like to understand, for example, how to get vocals to sound big without them losing their "attack". That pretty much encapsulates my problem...using drum terms to describe vocals isn't the most sensible approach.
If it makes a difference, we're a death metal band, however I think at this stage I really only need generalised theory.
