Mixing Down to a comp

Hello All, I have a Yamaha MD8 8 track digital recorder. I am planning on mixing it down to my computer, then converting it to a cd from there. what software would i need to do all of this? I know i'll need a good recording software program, can you recommend one? and also i will need a program to convert the wav/mp3 files so they can be readable by the cd when i copy them onto the cd. Also, this was just a thought but, i remember hearing something that the MD140 disks that the md8 uses used to be for computer use. is there a md140 drive available anymore that i can install onto my comp? and if there is, will i be able to copy those sound files from the comp right onto the cd? thatnks for any help you can offer.

Just about any audio editing software should do... I'd get the cheapest I could find since most of the work is already done... N-track or soundforge, maybe. When you buy a CDRW drive, it should come with CD burning software which will convert the Wav. file to audio.
There are a number of MP3 converters available for free on the 'net... I use Soho.

I use MusicMatch4 to mix down straight to mp3.
Probably not a good idea if you want to eventually make a CD out of that (mp3's use a lossy compression codec ... no good for CD ... you should use wav only). But, I use it primarilly to send mp3's to my band mates to transfer ideas back and forth. Works really good. MusicMatch also can convert a .wav to .mp3 if you want. http://www.musicmatch.com/download/

SoundForge XP is probably the cheapest way to make a good .wav. http://www.sonicfoundry.com/download/

If your CDRW drive doesn't come with the necessary software ... Sonic Foundry also makes CD Architecht ... which will work.

I haven't heard of any mini-disc drives for PC. Sorry.
