do most mixers that you are able to use to plug into your soundcard and use to control as a preamp for your recording connect through your computer through rca outs, because i havent seen any other kind of outs come from a mixer....do any of them use 1/4 or anything else?
 
Yes - virtually all boards have 1/4" and/or XLR outs on them. Very cheap boards may or may not. I had a $60 board couple yrs ago that had 1/4" outs and I had a $10 board before that which had 1/4" outs. So Im not sure what boards you have been looking at for them ALL to have only rca outs.

ok my mixer, has rca's that say out, and it has xlr that say right, left, and mon...these are for an external amp signal, but could you use it for a signal into the computer for an "out"? and then the 1/4 inch holes say: l-r return, effect 2 send, pre eq inserts, and that is it...what are these used for, i kind of know some of them, but not really...either live or in the studio, what can they be used for?
