mixers (probably a silly question)

I have 2 guitars 1 mic & a keyboard & i dont want to keep plugging in & unplugging instruments im thinking of getting a mixer but is there another alternative?
 
An interface with enough inputs, something like a Tascam US800? That would do the same job for you since you're not actually mixing your various sources, just avoiding re-plugging.

Of course, if, as Kip asks, you DO want to mix them together live, then maybe you need a mixer!
 
AS long as you don't want to record more than 2 tracks at a time, a simple USB mixer (stereo USB output) will work for you. I bought a Mackie ProFX12 for the same purpose, and still use it to keep everything plugged in, but I run the stereo audio out to my Tascam US800 interface for recording.
