Mixer vs pre-amp

Hi,

I am thinking about getting the ART tube pre-amp for connecting to a Rode NT1 (or possibly AKG c3000). An alternative would be to purchase a mixer. Are there any decent low cost mixers with sound of the same quality as the preamp? My budget is 200 USD.

If you don't need external mixing, go with the ART tube pre-amp. I doubt you could find a worthy mixer for $200.

I too would opt for the pre-amp unti you can afford a decent mixer.

I already posted that question here a few months ago and went with the majority - the preamps. I bought an ART Tube MP and a Dual MP.

I needed phantom power for my condenser mics and a warmer sound for my drum machine and (very occassional) keyboards. The preamps gave me that and for now I can meet my mixing needs with my 4-track. So far I've been pretty happy with that decision.
